now playing: Jim Nunnally

You have to admire s musician who can put Don Mclean's tale of Van Gogh, Vincent, on the same recording with Dolly Parton's My Tennessee Mountain Home and the well worn western song Old Paint and make them all believable, not too sentimental, and just really interesting. Jim Nunnally's done that here, with the backing of some talented friends including Joe Craven, Dix Bruce, John Reischman and the Jaybirds, David and Sam Grisman, Tashina Claridge, and Rob Ickes.

The Gloria of the title is Nunnally's mother, and Nunnally chose many of the songs because they are her favorites. He also contributes the original title track named in her honor as well as a blues original and some fine arrangements of bluegrass instrumentals.Sixteen tracks of songs mostly familiar , but not often heard alongside each other. Gloria has good taste in music; so does her son.
