Ireland north and south

The 12th of July has often been a hard day in Ireland, especially in the north, a day of division and anger and violence.

With the music talked of in the posts below, I offer a wish that it will become a day of peace and connection.

now playing: Radio Ballads: Northern Ireland

Music Road: Irish music, Irish landscape

Creative practice: the music of what happens

From Sean Tyrrell's song The 12th of July(Lament for the Children)

Come pledge again your heart and your hand
One grasp that never will sever
Our password be our native land
Our motto, love forever
And let the orange lily be
Your badge, my patriot brother
It's the everlasting green for me
And we for one another

Here is Cathie Ryan singing The 12th of July

An way to support Music Road: you could Buy Me a Coffee at ko-fi.com

If you enjoy what you are reading here, I've recently begun publishing an occasional newsletter at Substack with more stories about music, the people who make it, and the places which inspire it. Come visit and check it out!
