join her for a song: muireann nic amhlaoibh

You've heard about the music and backgruund of Irish singer Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh before here along the Music Road. Here she is singing Slan le Maigh, a taping from the Highland Sessions series.

Nic Amhlaoibh's tour schedule, as well as her blog in English and Irish is here. She'll be the MC of a show featuring the pipes which will tour a several US dates in October, including Boston and Miwaukee. In December, she'll be part of Danu's holiday tour of Canada, and she's finishing up a recording with Scots Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis. Fowlis, by the way is making several rare US appearances in the latter part of September.

now playing: karan casey: beat of my heart video

Karan Casey sings the contemporary irish song, Beat of My Heart/Buille Mo Chroi. The song was written by Louis de Paor, and is better known in the gritty, hard edged version done by de Paor's frequent writing partner and old school chum, John Spillane. Casey brings a different sort of energy to the song, engaging on its own, and in keeping with another aspect of the song's spirit. Check out her backing musicians, too. Can you name them?
